LARGE SOUVENIR SILKS

made by Thomas Stevens

These silks can be found both mounted and unmounted.

They are however not typical of the Stevens Pictures, and are much too large to be considered as bookmarks, measuring typically 10cm by 25cm (4 inch by 10 inch).

Godden notes that the Bookseller of October 1862 carries an advertisement for these as 'framed from 5/- each.' As such, these framed silks pre-date the normal Stevengraphs by some 13 years.

The Bicentenary Ribbon [su4 below] has been seen framed, with the back cover having an embossed Stevens logo of the early 1860's. This would confirm that these silks were in fact framed at that time.
