by Godden:
Godden does not record this silk, as the following extract of his book shows:-
This rather rare full-face portrait of the Victorian jockey occurs in two versions, as listed below.

The title was first included on label 21+13+2 of 1887, and examples are affixed to type C2 card-mounts.
The title was included in a Stevens advertisement published in May 1887.

§132: With P. Buchanan's colours: rose jacket with black sash (see so404). (Note: Godden incorrectly identifies this as Prince Soltykoff's colours.)

§132a: With Mr Vyners colours: violet jacket with white sash - see so408. (Note: Godden incorrectly identifies this as Sir Green Price's colours).

Other comments:
This silk was not previously recorded.
Care however must be taken, as so404 records John Osborne with rose jacket and black sash - and several coloured silks are known to fade quite readily; usually to a yellow colour.
Indeed, so406 is recorded with Osborne in a salmon pink jacket and black sash. It is possible that the silk above is a faded version of so406.
