White Star Line's RMS Teutonic.
Launched in 1889, the Teutonic first sailed for Spithead to take part in the Naval Review as she was the first Armed Merchant Cruiser. Plying the North Atlantic routes during peace, with the outbreak of WW1 she was requisitioned, and in 1915 she was purchased by the British Admiralty. In 1918 she became a troopship, and in 1921, with peace restored, she was laid up at Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
