Cunard Steamship Company RMS Ivernia.
Launched on September 21, 1899, she operated as a passenger liner until September, 1914; visiting many ports including Liverpool, Boston, New York, Naples and Queenstown.
In 1914 she was taken over by the British Armed Forces as a troopship, spending much of WWI in the Mediterranean, until January 1, 1917, when she was torpedoed by the German submarine UB-47 off the coast of Greece. The vast majority of the 2,400 Scottish troops aboard were saved, many by the destroyer H.M.S. Rifleman.
