Comments:
The silk is a reduced size version of the Stevens portrait silk of Columbus, recorded as so214.

On the reverse of this postcard is printed

" PRIVATE MAILING CARD "
Authorised by Act of Congress of May 19th, 1898.

This card has a French stamp which was in issue between 1903 and 1906. This probably pre-dates when silk postcards were valid in the UK, so it seems unlikely Stevens would have made it. It is hence unclear where the card originated.
The Stevens silk seems to have been attached to the front of the card, instead of the usual sandwich between front and back cards.
As a Private Mailing Card, it is evident this design was not intended for a mass market, and it is unclear whether the card was printed in America, and posted in France, or whether it was printed in France austensibly for the American market.
