WINSTON LEONARD SPENCER CHURCHILL
Born 30th November, 1874.                Died 24th January, 1965.
Knight of the Garter, Privy Councillor, Order of Merit,
Companion of Honour, Fellow of the Royal Society.

 
The eldest son of Rt. Hon. Lord Randolph Churchill the 3rd son of
7th Duke of Marlborough. Married in 1908 to Clementine daughter
of Col. Sir H. M. Hozier, K.C.B. of the 3rd Dragoon Guards and
Lady Blanche Ogilvy daughter of 9th Earl of Airlie.
 
During a political career spanning 65 years he was at various times,
Sec. of State for the Colonies, President of the Board of Trade,
Home Secretary, First Lord of the Admiralty, Chancellor of the
Duchy of Lancaster, Minister of Munitions, Sec. of State for War
and Air, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Prime Minister, First
Lord of the Treasury and Minister of Defence (1940-1945).
 
Winston Churchill was one of the great statesmen of his generation
but it is as the outstanding leader of his country during the second
World War that he will be remembered best. After his death and
State funeral he was buried in the village of Bladon close by
Blenheim Palace home of his ancestors.
