Neither Sprake nor Godden record this version with the overprinted words of " THE EMPRESS OF AUSTRIA IN THE FIELD.

The design and quality of the overprinting is identical the the Stevens title of " THE MEET ", which leads to the impression this picture was created in its entirety by STEVENS.

This overprinted version forms a set with " THE DEATH " (recorded as st120), and " FULL CRY " (recorded as st249).

There are two versions of the normal Stevens THE MEET picture. In comparing of the horse in the front row, in one version (the earlier version) this horse's front legs are side by side, giving the impression of only one leg, and this version is recorded as st428. In the second, later version, recorded as st429, this same horse's front left leg has been moved back to display two distinct front legs.
In the image above with the overprinted words, it is the first, earlier version of horse's legs.
