Comments:

by Geoffrey Godden:
THE OLD LONDON ALBUM
This Grant album is listed on the back-labels of the 1887-8 period at 2s each. The album probably contained the woven views originally incorporated in 'Ye views of Olde London' {recorded on this site as st36}, first issued in 1885 and afterwards issued separately.

Other comments:
This rare book would have had two small ribbons to pass through the holes on front and back covers, to hold the book closed.
It contained three full size pictures, plus a small square woven silk picture on the front cover, which is repeated internally.

Godden noted the pictures of this album were included in the Grant multiple picture, st36: Ye views of Olde London. Importantly though, whilst the titles are the same, the actual 'Ye Church of All Hallows' and 'Ye Olde Bishopsgate' pictures are different.
In the album, the 'Ye Church of All Hallows' has the building on the right, whilst the 'Ye Views of Olde London' picture has the building on the left.
Similarly, in the album, the 'Ye Olde Bishopsgate' has the roof line sloping down from left to right, whilst the 'Ye Views of Olde London' has the roof line sloping down from right to left.

None of the pictures in this album has the usual " W. H. GRANT, MANUFACTURER, FOLESHILL, COVENTRY. WOVEN IN PURE SILK " credit printed on the card mount below the silk, which is found on all the other pictures issued by Grant.
